Three phones, 8.0-megapixels - which one has the best spec?
Samsung hit the headlines yesterday when they officially announced the INNOV8 i8510 mobile phone for the UK market, which is set to rival Sony Ericsson's C905 in terms of megapixels. Both cameras will sport a whopping 8.0-megapixel camera, along with Motorola's Alexander, which is rumoured to be in that region as well.
So, you know what we have to do in these situations - FIGHT!
Storage capacity
Sony Ericsson C905: Only 160MB internal memory, but it has an M2 slot for up to 2GB of expandable memory.
Samsung INNOV8 i8510 : 8GB of internal memory, plus it has a microSDHC slot for up to 16GB of extra storage.
Motorola Alexander: No word on internal storage, however we think it'll be around the same level as the C905 from Sony Ericsson. In other words, disappointing.
Display
Sony Ericsson C905: 2.4" QVGA TFT LCD.
Samsung INNOV8 i8510 : 2.8" QVGA TFT LCD.
Motorola Alexander: No word about the actual size, however from the hazy photos, we're guessing it'll have a 3.0" display.
Camera
Sony Ericsson C905: As aforementioned, it'll have a 8.1-megapixel sensor, with a digital zoom of up to 16x, Auto Focus, BestPic, Image stabiliser, PhotoFix, Red-eye reduction, and Picture blogging.
Samsung INNOV8 i8510: The INNOV8 will have an 8.0-megapixel sensor with Auto Focus, Image Stabilisation, Auto-Panorama Shot, Smile Shot, Multi Shot, Wide Dynamic Range, Face Detection and a Dual Power LED.
Motorola Alexander: Reports have claimed it will be between five to eight megapixels, however most sites seem to cite sources claiming it'll have an 8.0-megapixel sensor. Little else is known about the camera unfortunately.
Connectivity
Sony Ericsson C905: HSDPA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and A-GPS.
Samsung INNOV8 i8510: HSDPA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and A-GPS.
Motorola Alexander: Due to its QWERTY keyboard and NVIDIA graphics chip, we're going to hazard a guess that the Alexander will have HSDPA. It supposedly has A-GPS on top of that, however as for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, that's anyone's guess.
Media player
Sony Ericsson C905: The C905 can play MP3 and AAC files, plus supports album art, PlayNow and TrackID.
Samsung INNOV8 i8510: In addition to playing FM radio, it can pump out MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+ and WMA formats, and even has a 3.5mm headphone jack so no silly propriety headphones!
Motorola Alexander: Again, little is known about the MP3 player, however as it looks firmly like a business phone with the QWERTY keypad, it's probably not going to overwhelm us with its playback capabilities.
Operating System
Sony Ericsson C905: It has Sony Ericsson's bog-standard OS by the looks of things.
Samsung INNOV8 i850: Symbian OS V9.3, S60 v3.2.
Motorola Alexander: Reportedly running on Windows Mobile 6.1, and has an aforementioned NVIDIA graphics card, which should make for some nice web browsing.
